John A. Wilkinson, local attorney, historian,
and philanthropist, was an avid supporter of the
genealogy and history collections of Brown
Library. The John A. Wilkinson Room in the
library serves as the collection site for many
of his and others donations of documents and books.
The family of Mr. Wilkinson recently conveyed a
substantial donation to the library as part of
his final bequests. Because of his generosity,
an improved security system has already been
installed to protect the materials in the
collection. The remainder of the funds will be
used in future months.
The Friends of Brown Library and the staff and
patrons of the library greatly appreciate the
generosity of Mr. Wilkinson and his family. This
collection is one of the most popular and used
parts of the library. Without the support of
individuals like Mr. Wilkinson, the collection
would not contain the documents, books, and
photos which provide the basis for historical
research.
The John A. Wilkinson
History Room is also a great resource for
genealogy research. Reference Specialist Stephen Farrell
is a valuable resource for people doing
genealogical and historical
research at Brown Library. Stephen is also familiar with
online resources and can assist with research
beyond the local area. He recommends the
following on-line source for genealogy:
If you are in the position to honor or remember
a "Special Someone", please do not forget the
Brown Library
Memorials. By giving to the library when
there is a birth, death, anniversary, or "just
because" occasion, your donation will continue
to give to the community for many years to come
and assure that the name of your "Someone" is
remembered also.
